A few Holsters I just finished
plinkercases replied to hashtagartz's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
yup not worth the risk of the mag release being depressed while wearing/moving/holstering/drawing.... nothing worse than a thud sound after drawing. Remember some wearers may place it on hip bone and pull the belt tight and this would but pressure on the back side of the holster or the leather may actually "buckle" inwards. A small adjustment to your recurve and stay clear of it altogether. You look fine staying away from the safety. Nice holsters. -

Can't identify this stitching technique
plinkercases replied to yasin671589's topic in Sewing Leather
it looks like a variation on what I was taught was called a fisherman's running knot but with an extras "loop" at each intersection. I will see if I can figure out how to draw what I think it is. -

I really like your carving and colouring style. Nice looking holsters. Lets see the back sides! I would be curious to see how much leather is near the safety and the mag release and how it is formed etc. This can cause issue with the holster operating the controls rather than the shooter. -
Thanks Dwight and thanks Lobo as always. Its the folks like you and the others who take the time to share you years of hard earned experience with us newer folk that make this forum a true resource and not just a place to hang out swap leather pictures. This should be pinned if it isn't already...?

My take on the Dopp Kit
plinkercases replied to YinTx's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
that is a very elegant and functional design for sure. Well done as usual... and I have had to redesign more than a few shooting rest bags when I realised I could never turn them out or if I could the shape was not what I expected! No wonder there are folks called Master Pattern Makers. -

Sheilajeanne that is excellent! Alisdair I like that philosophy... make and give it for free and for fun or charge what it is really worth. Simple formula.

Now that it has finally happened it wont be long before you post "oops I did it again..." excellent work regardless of where you land your price will attract attention from others. Good luck with it and let us know how it all goes. Since I am currently blessed with a day job that allows me a Jobby (hobby that almost pays for itself) so when pricing I am not too concerned about covering labour, material costs, overhead, and profit etc. but when I retire from the day job that may all change if I move into a real "business" model.. One of my kids is threatening to learn and get into it and it would be a good thing to leave for him to earn as a skilled trade he can fall back on when music isn't paying the bills....

My read of the CAS rules is that it would not be allowed as the loops would not be in a "single row" and not of a tradition design and the rule about slides over loops may imply no layering...and most clearly the ammo loops can't move the ammo out from the body as the double stack does here. (interestingly enough for many of us once you put the ammo belt below your belly button everything tilts out BUT at least is still conforming to the bodies contour... loop hole there... hee hee) ... I also think functionally it wont work as the rows would interfere with the retrieval of each other even if you dropped the front row down.. Ammunition required for reloads during the course of any stage must be carried on the shooter’s person in a bandoleer, cartridge/shotshell belt loop, pouch, holster, or pocket or be safely staged as required by stage instructions. Leather belt slide ammo loops are acceptable; however, shotgun shell slides may not be worn over shotgun loops on an ammo belt. Shotgun loops must be in a single row. Rifle and revolver ammunition may not be carried in a shotshell loop. No ammunition may be carried in the mouth, ears, nose, cleavage, or any other bodily orifice. Bandoleers, cartridge belts, and pouches must be of traditional design (e.g., bandoleers must be loose and not secured in any way to prevent movement). Modern drop pouches, combat style shotgun loops, wrist or forearm bandoleers, and such are not allowed. Pouches shall have a flap and must carry their contents loose, with no special provisions to organize the contents for rapid retrieval. . Cartridge loops must not have a metal or plastic liner. However, the entire loop may be made of metal • Shotgun ammo loops may not accommodate more than two rounds per loop, and rifle/revolver ammo loops shall accommodate only one round per loop. • Ammo belts must be worn so all ammo is positioned at or below the belly button. • Shotgun ammo loops must conform to the shooters contour (i.e., not tilt out from the belt). • Cartridge loops mounted on a firearm’s stock or forearm, are not allowed.

Holster and Gun Belt
plinkercases replied to Rolandranch's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Wow that is a shame actually to hear that the "new technology" that makes them easier for folks to use is actually the weak link... not surprising though.. machined steel is usually more durable than mother boards and electronic devices.... my wife and I thought we bought the most simple mechanical electrical toaster on the market (a plunger knob and a light dark knob) and a month later it was acting up and I thought... thermal switch easy... only to be told the mother board was shot. You are making me think twice about servo motors and stick with clutches with reducers and practice.... Did warranty not help you out on the these failures? you haven t had it that long have you?- 41 replies

6 oz veg tan belt case/sheath products no more than three layers (3/8ths is fine) belts and some flat stuff made out of upholstery leathers. Even harder to make a choice now that the adler deal had some extras added and i confirmed the pfaff is a class H3 C which is the third of four levels for medium duty taking needles from 120 to 160 and thus 207 thread...... -
