  1. Ferg the website looks great. If I could offer a tiny critique.... I would work on the home page store description a little. Shorten it up some and maybe pay a little closer attention to paragraph structure. Also, always remember, the American average readers only read at an eighth grade level. So, short and sweet is the best approach. Good luck.
  2. Very good job. Really ambitious for your 1st year. I have yet to make anything that complicated. Keep up the good work.
  3. I may want some exotics and boot tops. Were you thinking grab bags by the pound? I would be interested.
  4. That is a great looking bag.
  5. That, is a cool story and wallet. Great job. Was beta max still around when you made the first wallet?
  6. Ok, I'll play. We will start at the beginning. In 2010 I shattered both of my heels at work. I was spending a lot of time on the internet and got sucked into "the whole end of the world as we know it" scenario. I was buying guns beans and bullets. And I was looking towards blacksmithing as a hobby slash end of the world career. Silly, I know. Anywho, I started looking into leather work instead. Since blacksmithing was going to require a lot of heavy lifting. My wife let me carry on for a while and then finally pointed out I was overcompensating due to my injuries. So, I dropped the issue. Fast forward to 2014. In August of that year we had our second son Eddie. He was born sick and only lived 2 weeks in NICU. After about two months I had to get my hands moving again. So, I wandered into a new Tandy store down the street. And the rest, as they say, is history. Here is the first thing I made watching Grierwolfe's YouTube channel. This was 4-5 oz shoulder with fiebings medium brown (I think) and super sheen.
  7. I have always used the fiebings pro or regular spirit dyes. 90% of posts I have seen here are "what did I do wrong with this Eco flow dye" and "how do I fix this?". Some people have had some luck with it, but I just avoid it altogether. Resolene is well liked around here. Mostly people spray it 50\50 with water thru a cheap airbrush. I haven't tried it yet, either. I usually just finish my stuff with a coat of Aussie. But I'm just a hobbyist.
  8. Great job again, Roland. I hope my little boy takes a liking to leather. He's only 5 right now.
  9. Only know what I have heard. Somewhere in the neighborhood of $16,000 new.... @nstarleather would know better. Maybe he will chime in.
  10. Wow, great job, Roland. You are well in your way to making a living at this stuff. Really impressed.
  11. That's a band knife splitter and if it works, you stole it.
  12. That looks cool. How big is it?
  13. Dang, I started following this in the hopes you would find it again.
  14. It is a really nice sheath.
  15. I don't have that answer for you, but I did want to comment. I really like your approach to all of this. DG Saddlery has a growing list of videos on YouTube concerning the saddle making process. Just search Don Gonzales. He is located in Bryan, Texas. But, he does mention in his videos that he is willing to answer questions in emails. If you haven't found him already he seems like a great resource and he has a great appeal on camera. I don't do saddles but I love his videos. Good luck.
  16. What a bunch of beauties....
  17. I like InZane Leather Works. I think that is cool. Leather by Zane. ZP Custom Leather. Premium Petty Works Premium Petty Leather Z. Petty Leather. Petty Premium Leather @Sattendorn if you just use Sattendorn Leather that would be great. It has a certain classy classical feel. Rolls off the tongue. Say this out loud. Sattendorn Bridle Company. It sounds like it has been around for a long time.
  18. If you are leaving the soft fuzzy flesh side "as is" I would just sand the edges. I don't really do much with chrome tanned edges other than leave them be. If it gets lots of use it will sort of burnish over time. .02
  19. I think stitching is more of a make or break for a project. I have seen some great stuff with splotchy coloring. But bad stitching just lowers the appearance more than anything, I think. And I'm not saying this to discourage anyone. We are all still learning.
  20. Really professional looking job. And the photography looks great too. I always just snap a cell phone pic.
  21. If you're in the States give Cobra Steve or Cowboy Bob a call. I'm sure they can help.
  22. Does it work pretty good? Harbor freight here in the states carries this type of press.
