  1. Is there a way to separate the zipper so that you can do each side separately? That is what I would do. Also, the advice above is correct, glue the inner pieces prior to stitching and use a wing divider or straight edge and scratch awl to make a nice, straight line to use as a benchmark for your stitching. Separating the zipper would allow more access to the parts to be stitched. After it is complete, simply re-attach the zipper and put a zipper stop at the end of the zipper opposite the pull. Zipper stops can be purchased or you can probably create your own with some creativity.
  2. Sweet!

  4. Great job. I especially like the straps with the edge treatment!

    Zippers

I would think you will want a 3mm zipper for a wallet. A 4mm would work but I'm thinking a 5mm is too large. Is this a "biker style" wallet or a more elegant zippered affair?
  6. Make Supply has free patterns that you can download immediately and begin working on things like wallets, etc. Welcome to this addicting avocation.
  7. A little thick for my taste if I'm honest. However lots to like about it. I like the creases on the pockets and you did a nice job on the stitching. Nice distance from the edge too. Love the color. The stamping looks fine to me. Was it hard to get it to turn out?
  8. As others have indicated, the piece is amazing. I particularly like the 3-D effect and the photo you took at an angle shows it off nicely. I've seen some work that just didn't have the depth to really make the flowers "stand out" so to speak. One question I did have is the attachment of the braided handles to the bag itself. How did you accomplish that on this project? I could see where that could be a bit tricky.
  9. Those straps are about as basic as basic can be and really don't require any special tools whatsoever. Could be made with a utility knife. For holes, a scratch awl could work in a pinch. So you are wanting someone to make them for you? That's what I got out of your message, but it wasn't entirely clear to me. The roller buckles are easily sourced. The leather appears to be prefinished and was left rough on the back and edges, so not a lot of work there.
  10. Yes it came up recently. Some surmised it is proprietary, at least the one in the other thread. Yeah, try OTB.
  11. Congratulations! Family is so special and I'm glad that you are enjoying yours so much. I think it says a lot about people when they are proud of their family. This comes from someone who never met his biological grandfather (on my mother's side). He even outlived my mom but didn't come to her funeral. Sad and shameful. Here's to more healthy family members for you and yours! Ray
  12. You do great work. Beautiful family you all have there. God bless!
  13. Very nice work! Info on the laser would be helpful. I love the results!
  14. I agree that with this particular wallet it is possible there are no internals. For one reason is the overall size of the pocket area. If the cards did slip, how far could they go? Seems to me it wouldn't be a major issue. Perhaps you have some scrap and could make up a test piece to determine whether any sort of internal suspension is necessary. Not sure I like the sideways orientation of the slots. I guess you would have to use the thing to determine whether you like it. I suppose they are that way because the wallet is designed to be carried in a purse and not a pocket. In a purse, you would grab it, open it horizontally and slide the cards up. Still don't like it.
  15. That leather is supposedly 3/4 oz. which when doubled in thickness is not what I would call flimsy. Do you have experience with leatherworking? Wondering if this is a good idea to start with.
  16. Maybe I should have said I know of no adhesive commonly available...besides, how will we know?
  17. I've been in the construction chemicals business for a long time and have sold various adhesives during my tenure. I know of no adhesive that will be reliable 100 years from now. I agree with the above that felt is probably not your best option here. If you want long term durability and the bag is really going to be used, a leather lining is the way to go. Folks here glue flaps of all sorts with Weldwood and Barge cements all the time and I've never heard of anyone complaining about the adhesive being too stiff. Never happened in my work either. I think you are right in testing what is out there but you might be overthinking this a bit.
  18. If you rough up the leather you can use less cement and it should dry faster. Tap with a smooth hammer to help bond.
  19. I think it is a sandwich affair with the long piece in-between the two small pieces. My only suggestion is to finish all of your edges and then assemble. I don't know how else you are going to get everything to look the same. I am assuming that by "finishing", you mean beveling and then burnishing?

  22. I had never heard of them. Certainly have no experience with them but if you read between the lines it appears to be a fairly new company with limited days of operation, hours, etc. I suspect it is simply a delay in processing. I doubt they have any sort of automatic order confirmation, etc. I'd try them by phone until someone answers.
  23. I assume you followed up with them by phone prior to posting your message?
