  1. Or, wrap the gun in plastic wrap and use that and jlsleather instructions on making an avenger style holster?
  2. That deformity at the belt slots is from a very heavy belt piece I made to ensure the curve of the holster whi,e drying. I might need to round those edges a bit more, but it does ensure the proper arc of the back of the holster.
  3. I've been making holsters, but haven't posted since mine are pretty much the same. But, this was a bit unusual and I thought you might like the story. I had a guy call me about making 5 holsters as Groomsman's gifts for his wedding in June. 3 1911's, a Car (Khar?) 45, and an unknown at this time Sig. This is the one for the groom, Kimber 45 acp CUSTOM II. I really like these, might be my next purchase. One of the 1911s is going to be a daisy bbq gun for his 9 yo son, who is going to be his best man(he wants him to have a holster he can grow into). So one for the groom, one for the best man, and 3 for the Groomsmen. All in dark brown, with groom, best man, and groomsman stamped on the back. Herrmann oak 7/8 oz Febings pro dye dark brown Resolene and water 50/50 Cobra class 3 with 277 top and bottom.
  4. I use the set of setters from Buckle guy. BG copper/brass rivet setter set. 3 punches, one hollow for setting washer, one small dimple for setting the rivet after cutting, and one big hollow for doming the flat rivet head. I've been very happy with them. About $60.
  5. Getting hard to find here on the Olympic peninsula here in Washington too. I also have to rely on Home depot. I can get the smaller bottles, but really like the quarts. Brandon will say it's a Putin shortage though.
  6. Liquid glue, squirt bottle. Glue has been coming in them for years.
  7. I use a 1 ton arbor press from HF. 2 foot cheater bar. And it works ok if I use one side then the other on up to 9/12 HO for a 4 inch round coaster. I have also broke one off at the base with the cheater bar trying to do it all at once.
  8. Yes, NFO and call it character. Each one unique.
  9. Looking forward to seeing your progress.
  10. Welcome from the Olympic peninsula in Washington state!
  11. I like making holsters, knife sheaths, and axe covers. But, mainly, I like holsters. That's my thing. I run an add on Craigslist, locally, with pics of my work. I get many calls, and a lot of I'll call you when I'm ready. I dont put them on my list. This a busy hobby for me. I'm retired, and just love leatherworking. I do not try to compete with master carvers or big time, big box holster makers. But, H.O. leather is not cheap. If people want a garage sale deal, go to a garage sale and find a brand new custom holster. It doesn't take a lot of sales to cover my costs, but this ain't cheap! I'm doing a show locally this summer. I'll probably pass out a lot of business cards. We'll see.
  12. Very nice,, it will only get better with time and more leather! Of course the tools will become an addiction!
  13. Other than being wrong sided, I really like the colors.
  14. I would start by cleaning the bobbin area very well. Also take a good look at the hook. No real good ideas here. I use superior 277 white as well and have been very happy with it.
  15. IMHO, Saddle stitch by all means Thinner thread will be fine, your not towing a truck here. The holes on back look smaller because of the machine stitching, mine always do. Double the start and stop stitch and burn/melt the ends on the back. You can tie off if you like. You would have to separate the two pieces and let contact cement set up before it would be effective so I think not. Maybe some other glue a Goop or something similar you could put in with a stick and clamp till dry? Just about any leather treatment would be an improvement. Nice find and well worth the effort to save the original. Most of the ones I get are crumbling ruins. It looks very much like the sheath for my Father in laws Mora that he had in north Africa in WW2.
  16. Very, very nice. Love the color.
  17. Very sweet! Not judging here, but, 2 45s?
  18. Weldwood and a fan.. Trying to keep what few brain cells I have alive..
