  1. Brass Black will turn it black, but it is not durable. I have used it on the brass hardware on rifles and it will wear off with use.
  2. I use a spray bottle. Give it a fairly good wetting initially, and just quick spritzes as needed.
  3. It can be used to back lighter weight leather to give it more substance. I made a couple "hot pads" out of it once for putting hot dishes on the table.
  4. Bought a machine several years ago. It makes a great table to stack things on.
  5. An awl, waxed linen and 2 needles.
  6. Small of your back carry?
  7. Tandy? No thanks.
  8. After 45 years of construction in the PNW, I can say with 100% certainty that you will NEVER make leather waterproof. I have used every product out there on my boots and the BEST will keep them reasonably dry for 2-3 days. And then you are reapplying for the next 2-3 days. That is why Gore-Tex is so popular.
  9. Have you looked into goat? Quite thin and very strong.
  10. I always had better luck with the older Antique stain and NO resist. All these new chemicals are just a PITA.
  11. Just damp the edges with plain old water and burnish with canvas. MAYBE a touch of beeswax.
  12. For punching and small cuts I use a hockey puck. My big cutting board is a 24x32 sheet of HDPE.
  13. Sadly, Tandy has let too many of us down too many times in the past. It will years before they earn back our trust.
  14. I've spent at least $20,000 on a rifle sling.
  15. I'd just cut the stitching. It doesn't take that long to restitch. Then stitch the loop in place. Barring that, maybe Chicago screws?
  16. 35 years and I still have no use/desire for a machine.
  17. Oh! I thought you said "First rule of knife FIGHTS"(see Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid)!
  18. I back with masking tape, a couple of layers. Back your project before wetting.
  19. If you are just starting out, I would recommend a "Starter" set. Something like this; https://www.springfieldleather.com/Basic-10-Stamping-Set or this; https://www.springfieldleather.com/SLC-Basic-7-Stamping-Tools These will have all the tools you need to start tooling leather. You can expand your tools as your skills grow.
  20. That would be my first guess, but pictures would be a huge help.
  21. I see we are STILL stuck with pics of mechanical junk!
  22. +1 on Maverick, good people.
  23. I agree, really don't want/need to see pictures of sewing machines.
