  1. After I lay out the spacing, I poke all of the holes with a chisel I made from a screwdriver. Then I set all the spots from the top, flip it and bend the prongs with another small screwdriver.
  2. I just rub it on the raw edge and rub it down with canvas. You want to melt it into the fibers. Doing anything else first keeps that from happening.
  3. Just last week my granddaughter spilled red dye over ALL of the key fobs she was doing for Christmas.
  4. We got all of the sled dogs loaded up and the horses, but "barn cats" aren't pets, so they can't be caught at the best of times. But they all hang out at the pump house where we feed and water them, and by some stroke of luck, it didn't burn. But I imagine they were scared "hissless" the whole time.
  5. We lost one cat about 4 days after, smoke damage? All other animals (us included) made it through. Everything else was just "stuff". Some was important, some was sentimental, some was expensive. But it was still just stuff. Life is now as normal as it ever gets around here.
  6. Before the fire I had an old school mud flap from a semi that I used to cut on. The fronts sometimes have molded logos, but the backs are flat. I should add that we lost everything in a wildfire 8 years ago. THAT fire.
  7. A Craftool B200 is a good all around size of smooth beveler. Craftool USA B200 Smooth Beveler Leather Working Crafting Stamp Tool | eBay
  8. Brass Black will turn it black, but it is not durable. I have used it on the brass hardware on rifles and it will wear off with use.
  9. I use a spray bottle. Give it a fairly good wetting initially, and just quick spritzes as needed.
  10. It can be used to back lighter weight leather to give it more substance. I made a couple "hot pads" out of it once for putting hot dishes on the table.
  11. Bought a machine several years ago. It makes a great table to stack things on.
  12. An awl, waxed linen and 2 needles.
  13. Small of your back carry?
  14. Tandy? No thanks.
  15. After 45 years of construction in the PNW, I can say with 100% certainty that you will NEVER make leather waterproof. I have used every product out there on my boots and the BEST will keep them reasonably dry for 2-3 days. And then you are reapplying for the next 2-3 days. That is why Gore-Tex is so popular.
  16. Have you looked into goat? Quite thin and very strong.
  17. I always had better luck with the older Antique stain and NO resist. All these new chemicals are just a PITA.
  18. Just damp the edges with plain old water and burnish with canvas. MAYBE a touch of beeswax.
  19. For punching and small cuts I use a hockey puck. My big cutting board is a 24x32 sheet of HDPE.
  20. Sadly, Tandy has let too many of us down too many times in the past. It will years before they earn back our trust.
  21. I've spent at least $20,000 on a rifle sling.
  22. I'd just cut the stitching. It doesn't take that long to restitch. Then stitch the loop in place. Barring that, maybe Chicago screws?
