  1. Sounds like the fun I'm having. Been waiting for a order from Tandy and according to UPS they said it was delivered at 12:30. I looked at the email at 12:45 and thought it was weird it said it was delivered to the back door. The even crazier thing was it had been snowing for a few hours and there wasn't a footprint or anything on my property so the whole someone took the package was out of the question. 1 hour of automated phone waiting before I ever got to speak to a human being. 4 hours later I got a call saying they were going to track down the delivery guy and try to figure out where my package is. But somehow yours still sounds worse, like I'm pissed they would actually ask you to pay for their screw up. We are the sheep consumers that places don't give a damn about. Oh and the best part I forgot was mid afternoon I looked out the back door and there was a delivered box. Problem was it was from the USPS and was the neighbors 2 houses over.
  2. Check the back to see if all the fins are clogged with dust and lint. Been there done that, blew all the crud out and worked fine after. Happy Thanksgiving
  3. Wow, you couldn't of had a straight face when you wrote that.
  4. Not having any idea what the machine is knowing you do, could it be flagging depending on what leather they're sewing?
  5. After looking at some of these I was going to start a thread on the messiest but if I posted mine I don't think anyone could compare.
  6. If you look in most leather stores they have erasers that will take off contact cement but just as easy roll it with your fingers. Your leather curling is from the alcohol in the dye evaporating. The fix is to bend and roll the leather the opposite of the way it's curled to straighten it out and oil before dying might help.
  7. Should we guess at where in Wi?
  8. If you're looking for the cheapest option go to Springfield leather and get a few bags of the scrap leather(veg). You can get different weights and also a mix of Herman Oak and import so you can tell the difference. Don't be fooled into thinking there's not usable sized pieces because there are. Also get a leather gauge ($4.00) so you can tell the different weights and what works best for ordering in the future.
  9. Are you asking if one machine is better than the other because a difference in the recommended sewing thickness of 1/16th of a inch?
  10. No leather or leather made goods just services in the tool skills or manufacturers of equipment, DON’T BE SHY OR STINGY!
  11. Why in the world would you order from it from Germany when you can order from Springfield Leather and multiple other places?
  12. Is that a Sergey (the Y's) stamp or from somewhere else? That a nice looking stamp that flows with the length of the sling.
  13. And why is it you think veggie oil would eat the thread?
  14. Love how easy it is to spread, how quick it sets up and if it gets a little thick just add water.
  15. Those are a couple of nice things.
  16. Check out @Oak Grove Leather Works he's selling all his tools and might have what you're looking for.
  17. Leave the stitches, that must have not been any fun getting a needle inside of that little thing to stitch.
  18. That was the belt I kept getting. Each place I went to all the belts in their computers started with the 3L for 3/8ths belts. And all of them were 1/2 wide and wouldn't fit half way into the pulley. Before I deep dove into O'Reily's site I looked for sewing machine belts but all I could at 55 inches long were 3Ls. Or are you saying that much of the belt should be sticking out?
  19. I just went through the headache of belt hunting, here's what I found out. For a 3/8ths pulley get a piece of 3/8ths rope and put around both pulleys to get the length. Here's where it got stupid. Went to Napa and the 3/8ths belt in the right length was actually a 1/2in. wide. Went to Auto Zone and guy looked up 3/8ths belt got home because it said on package in the part number and yup, 1/2in belt. Went to O'reily's same thing, watched the guy enter into computer and ordered in got home and another 1/2in belt. By now pissed off and went onto Oreily's site and started digging, now the really stupid part, you can check the site for any of them to save you the headache. The 3/8ths belts listed on their site if you look are 1/2in wide(13mm). The 7/16s belt are actually 3/8ths(10mm) wide. Somehow the wider belt(7/16) is narrower than the (3/8ths)belt. I stumped all the employees when I told them and they tried to make sense of it and couldn't. Hopefully this can help you
  20. The reason I asked is there is a difference color wise in leathers. I found out through trial and a lot more error that depending on what you apply the resist with makes a difference. Don uses old pieces of wool and I was using a sponge and was putting on way to much completely sealing it from the antique. The wool barely applies any. I'm sure if you look at the instructions it probably says to apply with something that's damp for a way not to over apply. The resist almost acts the same as block dying getting the resist on the high spots and letting the antique stick in the lower parts.

  22. What kind (brand) of leather did you use?
  23. Nice read, can't beat the stories from the outlaw days.
  24. Was asking to make sure you weren't buying a new one instead of shimming out the old one to get the reverse stitches to line up.
