No apologies necessary. Appreciate your posts. Tom

Please post your photos (first post in this thread, plus current ones) here. 3rd party hosts links are lost when permissions are changed, host stops sharing or goes out of business, files moved or deleted. When the photos disappear from this thread, the thread becomes useless. Take a look around some of the older posts that used 3rd party hosting and you will see how discouraging this is for people researching a topic. Tom

Camera bag
Northmount replied to Arutemu's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Please post your photos on this site. 3rd party hosted photos seem to disappear due to changes in host, moved, deleted, etc. Then this thread becomes useless as no one can view the photos. If you browse threads here, you will see the results unfortunately. Tom -

Celtic wolf for a valet
Northmount replied to arashikage's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Good start. I know you didn't ask for a critique, but here goes anyhow! Sharpen and strop your swivel knife so it is easier for you to follow the lines. When you think it is sharp enough, sharpen it some more. Strop after every few cuts. Make sure your leather is not to wet. Knife drags a lot when the leather is too wet. It should be practically back to its original colour when it is dry enough. Take your time with your cutting. Pull towards you. Don't get in a big hurry. Hope this helps. Tom -

Selling my Fortuna Bell Skiver (Rebuilt by Mando) - UK
Northmount replied to km6064's topic in Old/Sold
@km6064 Moved your post to the "Marketplace" This is where for sale items should be posted. Please read the markeplace rules https://leatherworker.net/forum/forum/70-announcements/ Please provide the price, any shipping information like local pickup only, or willing to ship at buyer's cost, etc. Tom -
@knslbp Moved you post to the Marketplace - for sale since you say you want to sell, not buy! Suggest you read and comply with the Marketplace rules at https://leatherworker.net/forum/forum/70-announcements/ And obviously, you need to identify where you are located, shipping info, price for each machine, etc. It's a good idea to put your location in your profile. This is a world-wide forum. Tom

Leather is wrinkling on folds, not sure how to fix
Northmount replied to sonataworks's topic in How Do I Do That?
When you fold the leather, you are stretching the outside layer. It isn't elastic. It won't return to it's original size/length. that is just the nature of the beast! Tom -
@ThreeRivers You have accidentally double posted, so I have moved this one to Business and estate sales. Good luck. Tom

Searching for Kingsley 72pt open box holder
Northmount replied to Tay1or's topic in Leatherwork Conversation

@utah leather Have you read through this thread? https://leatherworker.net/forum/topic/25239-the-type-of-sewing-machine-you-need-to-sew-leather/ Tom

Can't always remove distracting backgrounds. Some workshop pictures are even more interesting where we can see some of the tools and other hardware associated with the project. I wouldn't be moving a heavy machine just for a picture. Tom

Info on lace making and braiding from start to finish

Full listing of books by Ron Edwards, https://www.ramsskullpress.com/index.php/itemlist/category/7-bushcrafts Tom -
Your old digital camera is doing just fine. The rest of improving pictures is practice, same as leatherwork or any other. Composition, lighting, interesting angles, some close ups, etc. Avoid distracting backgrounds if you can, but that is not always possible. Most people here are interested in sewing machines, fixing them, keeping them running, etc. Tom

What kind of machinist am I looking for?
Northmount replied to Mark842's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
@Mark842 The machinist will have to turn the piece, then mill the surface similar to how they mill or broach splines. Your splines look like they have about a 5 degree offset or slope. If straight cut will suit you, you may be able to save a couple dollars. It's likely not worth the time to set up a CNC program for a one off. Take the part in with you and tell them you want them to make a new one. Here is a web page that will explain some of what you are looking for. Tom -
@Tc1388 Take the belt off and turn the machine by hand to see if it makes any unusual noise. With the power off and the belt off, turn the motor pulley and see what you hear. Try it without pressing the pedal, and with various amounts of pressure on the pedal. When searching for the location of a noise, you can take a short length of garden hose (or similar), put one end against your ear, and move the other end to check locations the noise is coming from. You don't need to press the open end of the hose against the machine, just close to it. It helps to eliminate other noise distractions and home in on the source area. Tom
