  1. Yes, chainstitch machines feed from cones, not from bobbins. Just google "union special 31100 AK" and it all should become clear.
  2. A dumb question: did you depress the clutch pedal before turning the wheel? I am am sure you did.
  3. Tiger torches are great against wasps and hornets. Don't ask how I know.
  4. Every mention of eminent domain and United States in one sentence makes my blood boil.
  5. No shit? It is a chainstitch machine for sewing the stretch fabrics. Many use them on non-stretch too due to the top and bottom thread both feeding from cones. But if you pull on the thread it goes zipppp... and undoes the seam.
  6. Also you could try alibaba and go from there. Find direct contact with the factories. They often have overstock items which they sell at scrap prices. I once paid CDN$100 for a 30kg box full of snap buttons, rivets and other similar goods which would be worth thousands if bought locally. All it took was some alibaba searching and a dozen emails to various manufacturers.
  7. Okay, you are selling these machines. We got it. If they are a good deal, those who are looking, would buy them. If they are not, they would pass. No need to be pushy. Moderators should move this into the For Sale section where this belongs.
  8. It is not the motor which would screw you up - it is the pedal. If you have an old style nichrome coil pedal, then it would overheat when running a more powerful motor then stock.
  9. Fine for webbing, not so fine for leather. It is a straight lockstitch while you need a walking foot.
  10. Your link is to a regular domestic textile sewing machine motor. What does your mom want to do with her patcher?
  11. When you want an unmarked, antique machine identified, you usually take and post lots of pictures from different angles.
  12. Not big at all. Buy a 2" pulley and a proper length belt. You might have to move the pulley up or down the shaft or rotate it 180 degrees to align with the machine's pulley, that's it. Stay away from the newer cheap servos with the pulley held by a nut vs an allen bolt in the pulley.
  13. My wife wanted for portable textile work something stronger than her plastic Singer and I picked up this Brother 1211 machine. It perfectly serves the purpose but we are puzzled by the mystery button or knob on the right side of the casting by the motor mount. It can be seen in the attached picture to the right of the Brother decal. I tried turning it and it seems to turn freely. It does not depress. Anyone know what it is for?
  14. The generic foot sets for sale on the Ebay may very well feel crooked or wrong altogether as they are quickly slapped together somewhere on the outskirts of Shanghai. I bought a set for Pfaff 335 feet from the ebay seller Sharp Sewing. Their set had an undersized oval tube in the inner foot and a non-fitting outer foot. Both had to be modified with a reamer and a dremel to fit. I bought another set from Ngosew and theirs had the same problem but to a lesser degree. I now have several sets from Ngosew which required way less work to adapt, but still required work. There is now Kung Peng Sewing out there who seems to be the manufacturer, but I have not tried their products.
  15. Is not stitch length too short?
  16. Depends on the voltage drop. I would not write the above if I did not witness it with my own eyes.
  17. One thing to remember is that if after wiring a 380V motor to run on 220V it runs at lower RPMs, then it could overheat from the lack of air circulation.
  18. This machine was likely used to sew saddle blankets, not leather. It would take 3/8" of padding, not leather.
  19. This was for the OP to have a winder, actually.
  20. No, mine is only for a 3/9" or about 9mm bobbin diameter.
  21. Just noticed your reply. Thank you, but I should be fine as I found another Brother machine in the back rooms.
