  1. Hi Wizcrafts, After 25 years or so of contract making stuff for all sorts, we (my wife and I) have made up a web page to go online and with any luck hope to obtain some better profit margin. I know you are way, way, waaaay more up on the computer side of things than I am and would like your opinion on our new site. I am thinking of putting it on my profile as I see some others do on here as well. Whenever we do new croc products we often make quite a few beforehand in leather to get the techniques sorted out. As we don't have a shop as such and are tucked away in the bush out of town this web think may be the best way to recoup some costs. Any advise as to how to get things rolling would be most appreciated. If you would prefer not to, That's OK I won't be offended. Note - I have sent the same question to Mikesc as well and If you think anyone else would be good for advise please let me know. Here is the link I hope. Regards Brian https://wildharry.com.au/

Am I correct in assuming that the website in your link belongs to you? Or is it a competitor being used as an example? If it is your website, it looks good and has Lazy Loading of the image blocks, plus it is responsive to different screen sizes. Further, the site is on https and has a working SSL connection, which is imperative for an eCommerce website.

There is an unfortunate second vertical scrollbar on the right side of the viewport, in my Firefox 49.0.2 browser. It appears at 1023px and under and disappears at 1024px and above. It is probably caused by a poor choice of a height declaration in the CSS file. This is undoubtedly a breakpoint declaration that uses an @media rule. You should hunt down that rule and fix whatever is causing the unnecessary vertical scrollbar.

Again, working on the assumption that it is your domain, you can advertise it via a Google Adwords campaign and might further monetize it by becoming an AdSense Publisher, displaying ads for other related websites.

Other than that, what would you like to know specifically?

Thanks for such a quick and no doubt helpful answer. Yes it is my new site, and I will get my computer guy to look at and hopefully fix the points you have mentioned on Monday. The Lazy Loading thing has me worried - Is that bad? I unfortunately have no idea as yet what the Google Adwords campaign and the other stuff is but I now know what to look into and thanks very much for your help. Regards Brian

  2. Looks pretty promising to me. A good thorough strip down a brass bristle rub on the grinder and I reckon she'll be a goer. Hows the pin that opens the tension discs? Not rusted in?
  3. Interesting find, but I would point out for any beginners that if tempted to use hydraulic oil that the red stuff could be disastrous with any leaking down onto the leather. I have often been worried after a good oiling, about the transfer onto the products being made and I can say that the Singer sewing oil has always dried without leaving any sign. I have no idea if it"s possible to get any readily available non coloured hydraulic oil. Best Regards Brian.
  4. Note: I have noticed in the past when doing long knives like this after a while they start to bow down a lot in the middle. I have made a practice of putting a sacrificial piece of hard veg on the 2 ends on top to help counteract it but a little build up weld on ends would be better if using a lot. If the bow goes too far the next thing is wanting to go sideways as well and you know what that means. Regards Brian
  5. From someone that uses these edgings every day I can only commend your bravery using red (the worst colour for getting off excess) in the way that you have. May I ask what application technique you decided to use in this case? Regards Brian
  6. From my experience I find that it is best to repeat hit a couple of times moving the knife and leather between hits to avoid any missus. This I do on tassels mostly and I don't know if I would try 20" long fringes in any hurry. (no ejection rubbers either I should add).
  7. Right pace and time I must say. Post some pics and say what parts you're chasing and I ask down here. Regards Brian
  8. Both clicker presses I have , have an aluminium plate at top and the double sided knives have not given any problems but these are just the regular 19mm knives for wallets and such.
  9. I think Tom does more to explain the answer to this than I could explain in 2hours. I also would like more of your type of work to be up there for the world to see more commonly on this forum. Toms words I have quoted below. Regards Brian This is an excellent example of why photos should be sized to fit here, and posted here. When they are moved or deleted later, maybe even 5 years later, the thread may become useless as the examples are no longer available. I encourage everyone that posts photos of their work, to post them to leatherworker.net either as a part of your post, or in a leatherworker.net gallery which you can then link into your post. Everyone will appreciate it. Tom
  10. That phone/card wallet is fantastic and the edge match colour is excellent as well. I assume you mixed it?Can't believe you edged the card pockets inside edge. I really think this should be posted in the Gallery show of section.
  11. Thanks for the thickness Cedric, if I'm right thats about 1mm and I can not seem to get any less than about 1.4mm in t6he Texon range here in Aus. Tits on a bull in other words. Regarding the turned edges. I doubt I could teach you much with your obvious talent but I'd be more than happy to try. I would say first you'd need a good skiving machine if you haven't got one. Your welcome to visit any time you like.
  12. Very useful looking shape knife here Harry and excellently finished of I think as well.
  13. Thanks again Mikesc, I have ordered some Softlon as in the picture above and expect to see see it soon. I will let you know how it performs asap. The cost to me is a bit hard to say yet but before freight just under $4.00au per sq metre has been indicated. I think that is about 2.75 Euro or $3.00 US dollars. It does look like a handy shop to have nearby I have to say. I would have to travel over 2000k to get something close to it. I wish there was more manufacturing in this country. If you want a sample PM me an address.
  14. Hi -Sam, thanks for the link. I am getting some in after a lot of searching some samples of foam that I think will serve my purposes. I received the 2mm sample today with some others and It is nice and squishy and thermo moulds as well.It takes the contact well and skives very nicely in my opinion. If you have any trouble gettingsome let me know as I have to get fairly large amounts of this at a time. Glad to hear from you again. Regards Brian.
  15. Very nice workmanship,I knew there was a reason to be following you. The design looks very good and unusual to me as well.
  16. Hi Dirkba, Do you own it already or do you have to buy it? What breed is it and can you get any more better pics? Pm me if you like.
  17. Thanks for the compliment Jeanne. I think Cedric's work is going to be something well worth following. Hope your new shop is coming along OK. Checked your web page and see some interesting new Gator stuff. Hope to have one myself soon. Regards Brian
  18. I would say that the thread is around the top tension discs and not between. This is easily done and not uncommon. NCArcher could be correct about the pin being stuck but sometimes the discs don't open up much when you are threading up and it it is very easy to overlook. When you are sure it is between the discs and down to the needle, pull the thread and tighten the tensionuntill it becomes a bit hard to pull.I should say with the presser feet down first. As it is I would guess it is easy to pull.
  19. Once again excellent work and the edging spot on. What thickness stiffener (board) may I ask? Here see a similar one I do with my favourite edging. NONE
  20. If you put your pointer over the duck picture and clicking on it, it will show my profile and you can just keep on looking back from there. Other than that mostly the product I make is on other businesses web sites. I am working on a few how I make type things at the moment and hope to post a few on here soon. Here below see some of the variety of products I get to make up.
  21. Very good work. The attention to detail on your edging is excellent. From what country are you may I ask? I mostly work with porosus skin and am happy to swap notes whenever you like. Brain
  22. Try packing it with cards untill firm and leave for a couple of days or stick into the fridge overnight. The example leather looks a little firmer but could be packed a bit before picture taken and may have some lining as well.
  23. Man, that just keeps you on the edge of your seat. The suspense and the tension just keep building but that sewing machine held together and just kept in going. The ventilated leather trick was a bonus throw in and the magnetic guide thing, well what can I say!!!. I think he could have done even better if his front foot was an open one and he could see a little better when he reversed stitched, but he could perhaps improve on his attention to detail a bit. It's great when people like Vince go to such efforts to share their knowledge and in such detail. Like Mikesc above said, Im ready for my lie down now as I already had my drink.
  24. I have a couple of similar looking knives and I have found that the blade inside the handle is only held in by some sort of paste/glue stuff. Over a lot of years one finally come totally loose and I pulled it out and the Paste was crumbly and could shake out. It is possible that this one has improved that problem.
