  1. Al Stohlman sanded it. That was for 'rough out' work, but no reason it can't be done for other uses.
  2. I think she will love it.
  3. Very nice indeed! And kudos to her for wanting to learn these things. Much of this knowledge will be lost if we have no one wanting to learn it.
  4. Had you said they were sheepskins to begin with I would have told you there is a 98% probability that they were tanned. 'Fur rugs' generally refers to bear skins, cougars, etc.
  5. Welcome from the DRY side of the state. Nice work.
  6. My wife sews harnesses for sled dogs, and each order that goes out has a 'thank you' card in it.
  7. Looks just like all the other fringe I've seen out there.
  8. If you can't post a picture I don't need to see it.
  9. If it is ball point ink it will be alcohol soluble.
  10. Looks good to me.
  11. If you do it the SAME every stitch you will get consistent results. Whether you run the left hand needle through first or the right hand, do it the same each time.
  12. I think I would go with either straight saddle tan, or dark brown. Perhaps cordovan. When I look at it my eyes should be drawn to the inlay, and they are not.
  13. Nice job. The only thing I might have changed would be a bit more contrast between the two leathers, just to make your inlay pop.
  14. Nicely done. Are you going to stitch or lace?
  15. Lookin' good!
  16. Very nice. I like the 1911 ones.
  17. As a guess, I would say that the socket is 'cupping', causing it to be smaller.
  18. Nice work! On a side note, Tsunka sapa means Black Dog in Lakota.
  19. No, I use that FOR lining.
  20. More info is needed. Discoloration/damage HOW?
  21. Don't use the swivel knife. Just bevel the lines or use a modeling spoon.
  22. Look into vg tan sheep. Muc thinner and far more supple than beef. You may want to 'break it in' a bit, but I use it for linin holsters and it is very 'bendable/foldable'. Or kid skin.
  23. Vaseline is a petroleum product, I wouldn't use it on leather.
  24. Very nice! Love oak leaves!
  25. I do nothing to the inside of a checkbook. I don't slick it, dye it or finish/seal it. It doesn't show, so I don't lose any sleep over it.
