  1. Hello Everyone! Brand new newbie here. I'm a firefighter and I'm trying to get into making the helmet shields for those retiring or leaving to go somewhere else. They make awesome gifts. Which brings me to my request, is there anybody out there that has a template that I can print out in order to get a 100% symmetrical and accurate shield? The ones my department lent me are old and pretty misshapen. Also open to any and all advice from anyone willing to help out. If you made it this far, thank you for reading and I hope to hear from you all.
  2. Hello! This is another backpack I made for my girl, you know ladies, they can't get enough of them. I was playing Metroid for two weeks ago and somehow after I finished this I found that the angles of the bag look a bit like Captain Samus's mask. The inspiration might have been unconscious or it may have been something else. Nonetheless here it is
  3. Hello everyone! This is one of my works, a backpack I made for my daily commute. It was made out of veg tan leather and it has 2 compartments. I used two buckles for the strap and the closing part and a zipper for the larger compartment. It took about half a square meter of leather to make and about two days. The pattern for it can be found here
  4. I made this for my mother and she wanted a big bag so I had to comply. It's made of veg tan and pull up leather. There's also a pattern for it if you want to check it out by following the link in my signature. Cheers!
  5. Tandy keeps an on-line digital resource of thousands of their old template/patterns, tips sheets, ideas from some of their tutors eg George Hurst. They even have digital copies of some of the Al Stohlman books and other books. Prices ranged from Free and upwards, many in the 99c and $1.99 brackets Recently I was keeping a load of these patterns and tip sheets in my 'basket'. Cost was to be about $40. I was waiting on a decent $ to £ rate before buying. Last night I went to buy them and found the system had deleted the 'basket' contents. I put the patterns I wanted back in, but the Library pages were slow in loading, up to 1 minute to change a page! But I discovered as I went along the hours [literally, hours] to go thru the Library and put the ones I wanted, plus more, was well worth it. All the patterns et ectrea are FREE, ~ as of the time I write this. (15.25 BST August 10 '19) I've no idea if this a temporary offer or what. Check it out for yourself: https://www.leathercraftlibrary.com/ But remember the website is running very slow right now, but after you buy the download of the pattern is as fast as your own computer allows
  6. My daughter has recently gotten into Falconry (volunteers every year at the local renaissance faire with Last Chance Forever Birds of Prey Conservancy) and I would like to make her a falconry glove of her very own. I have not seen any patterns on this site so wanted to ask if any kind soul out there has a pattern for this sort of glove they would not mind sharing. Also, along with this comes the question about what kind and thickness of leather to use to make the glove. Thanks in advance!
  7. Hello all leatherworkers, I was recently asked by a fellow member id I had a pattern for a backpack I made. So after putting it together for him I thought I should also share with the community. It's not a full size pattern, it is drawn on 1/4 inch grid paper so it will have to scaled up. I also added my construction process/instructions with the pattern. I hope it makes since. Let me know what you think. Here is a picture of the backpack I made. The link is: https://docs.google....dit?usp=sharing https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B880XxS2yBYDTnBQc3hIUEtiNms/edit?usp=sharing backpack pattern.pdf Backpack Construction.pdf
  8. Hello all, I'm new to leatherworking still and have seen this diamond pattern hatched thingy on phone cases and book covers. It looks nice and kinda classy but I don't know what it's called! I'd like to get some tips on tooling it so I don't make any stupid mistakes. Lord knows I make plenty of mistakes! Anyway, does this diamond, square, block design have a name because I don't know what it's referred to:-) Any carving/tooling tips would be appreciated! I take it this book cover had resist applied and then some antiquing to make the "crosshatch" diamond pattern (and other tooling) pop? Maybe olive oil, then resist then antiqued? Thanks in advance:-) Mark in Northern KY
  9. Okay, where is it? You know - that one elusive video that shows me how to make a holster pattern, or the holster. My baby girl figured out the password on my phone So I found her on poo-tube... and wouldn't ya know it, there's "holster videos" (sometimes holster stuff comes up in searches around my stuff). So, I admit it - I watched [portions of] about 10 of 'em. There I said it And in turn, each one of them took varying amounts of my time to show me the same thing Stohlman put in a book 50 years ago. Different gun models, but the same thing. So, seriously -- those who just want to bicker and argue, please do it elsewhere. Otherwise, DO tell me where the video is that ACTUALLY DOES show me how to design / make a holster. I know about the one Sam Andrews made (which I applaud). Is he still the only one? Now, I don't mean that a camera is running and there's a holster, and maybe there's a gun right there. I mean, if someone searched for 'how do i make a leather holster?' .. WHERE would I send them?
  10. Well I went to the local Tandy store south of Hartford CT last week after work and picked up some basic tools and one of the on sale double butt vegetable tanned 7-9 ounce . I ordered a few things to help me draw out patterns. After a week of watching videos and reading threads here I decided to make a holster for my M1X Olight daily carry flashlight. So far I have the shape down and I still have to make the stitch pattern and trace back pattern and cut into the other pattern parts. It was not as hard as I thought it was going to be so far I have about an hour and 20 minutes in this part of the process. Let me know if you see any glowing errors so far.
  11. Hi folks. I've never made a pair of boots but we do a lot of boot repair at our leather shop and have all the equipment and machinery needed to make boots. Lately I've had a desire to make myself a pair of 6" moc-toe work boots, similar to Red Wing's 1907 boot. Does anyone have patterns for cutting the leather for such a boot? As I mentioned, I've never made boots before, but I figure if one has the skills necessary to make a saddle then making a boot shouldn't be impossibly difficult.
  12. Political Party Craftaid no. 4115 An interesting craft aid I've not seen before. I have had it for many years, but of course has not been used as I live in the UK. As you can see from the photograph, the craftaid is slightly warped but I've been able to test it and make a satisfactory impression with a spatula. Would anybody like to make me an offer. I'll leave it up for awhile to give folks a chance to see it. I'll hold on the carriage charge as you may like some of my other craftaids I have for sale. Thanks for reading.
  13. Years back I used to get patterns in greyboard that were bound in brass around the edges, so that we could make a small run of a new design in the design shop, prior to production. I suppose that the acrylic, laser cut ones may be the current equivalent, but am keen to locate a supplier of the old ones. It is the cobblers, knives running around the brass binding that gave them the name 'clickers', and it would be good to get some made. My old supplier in Rushden, Northamptonshire has ceased to exist, as has the back up in Northampton. Any help or hints would be nice. I will reach out to Barker Black who make lovely shoes, as their design philosophy page includes this: The "Clickers" cut every piece of the pattern by hand using brass bound patterns, selecting only the finest grades of calf and suede void of imperfection. http://barkerblack.com/design-philosophy H
  14. They discontinued the Tandy Leather Market Place Handbag Kit. I am looking for the pattern that came with this kit. It is not included in the patterns you can download for this pursed from the Tandy site. I f anyone has this, I'll be glad to pay.
  15. Since I have used templates from here, I thought it would be nice to give back a little. Here is a template for a minimal wallet. It has 3 card slots and a lager pocket for whatever. Feel free to arrange them in many different ways. Prints well on 8x10 paper. Enjoy!
  16. Please feel free to check it on my SHOP in ETSY and follow my instagram. Thanks!
  17. Thought I would share this, she doesn't speak English but I have learned alot from watching her. Look at some of her other videos. She shows how she makes her patterns.
  18. Hi, I would like to hear your ideas on shop layouts... I specialise in chaps, chinks, and armita's, and have feet problems. So that causes issues if I can't walk as much as I'd like. Any of you have the same type of issues? A person always seems to end up running back and forth for this tool and that pattern, some glue, a hammer... The list goes on. Thanks for any input and ideas!
  19. Does anyone know where I could find patterns for tool belt pouches, such as used by carpenters, etc.?
  20. Hello I am in need of a pattern for a Colt 1911, leather weight 7/8 oz, inside waist band style, barrel length is 4.25 I don't have the gun. The holster is a b-day gift for my uncle his b-day is in 2 weeks. Thank you
  21. A friend of mine asked me to replicate this Greek key pattern on his belt for a new hat band. I've been working with the pattern for a while now with little success. Problems are: 1) replicating stitch width to create pattern (left to right distance when looking at the photo) - all of the patterns I've tried are way too wide so it looks like random stitching versus a pattern, and 2) leather tearing out between stitching - when I do get the holes close enough to resemble the pattern then it tears out as one piece. Anyone done something like this? Any tips are greatly appreciated.

  23. My daughters god mother is about to have her first baby! The one and only thing she asked for from us is a custom, handmade diaper bag! I have not even made a purse before. I told her I will give it a go. So this is where I request any and all help. I have no idea where to start! Is there any patterns for this? She did ask for something with shoulder strap and an outside pocket in the design.
  24. Does anyone have a pattern for a holster for a Taurus judge 45/10 3" revolver that you may want to share? Thanks in advance Chris
