  1. Very nice work. Those are called scissor snaps most places and available with either round or square rings depending what they are to fit on.
  2. I seldom visit Tandy because it is a 2 hour drive one way for me also plus I hate to deal with the traffic in that city. The las time I was there was nice as my daughter that is well acquainted with the place drove me there and back. All I had to do was sit back and watch and we went by Tandy as I wanted to look at their exotic leather supply and stamp selection. Neither was great but the young lady minding the store was very helpful. It was kind of a bust as I left with only a stingray skin and one stamp.
  3. I like them all. Keep on playing.
  4. Very nice work. I can see from the second picture that it has had some serious use in only a year and half but is holding up well.
  5. Nice work on both. I am not real crazy about the rough out look but see where it will be easier on the gun's finish.
  6. Congratulations. I won't attend the show because I live a loooong distance south.
  7. I have never owned one. I use the size hole punch I want on each end and cut the sides out with the appropriate sized wood chisel. When I started this long ago I had the wood chisels and not much money. It worked and I have stuck with it.
  8. Nice box although I am not too keen on aged finishes on new things but If that is a person's cup tea that's fine.
  9. That is neat indeed and something I have never considered. When I make something of that nature I usually knurl a piece of 3/8 or 1/2 inch aluminum rod, drill it to fit, and epoxy it on.
  10. Looks good and what I can see of it's content does too. Can't beat a single action for varmint control.
  11. Looks good to me. I made a few knives as a teenager on a farm out of what I could scrounge up. No good steel and I wouldn't have known how to heat treat it if there were. One of the ones I made had a stacked leather handle because that was what most hunting knives had back then. It wasn't nearly as nice as the factory made's but not bad for a kid with absolutely no source of how to do it. Later on I made one of good steel for my wife with a stacked leather handle that was better. By then that type of handle was going out of style and I could understand why. Lots more work than other materials and time is money to manufactuers. You have awaken an interest and I know what I am going to do with a bunch of little leather scraps I have laying around. I have lost interest in blade making as it has become unpleasant with worn out shoulders and elbows so I will just purchase a good blade and one of the grand sons will get an old timey leather washer handled knife.

    Mauls

I don't like the round or tapered mauls at all. I bought one to try and decided it makes a good paper weight. I also bought a hammer shaped maul and don't care for it. It transmits more shock to your hand than the rawhide mauls with wooden handles do. I was replacing my old, old Tandy maul from when they sold decent tools. I replaced it with a Garland and find I don't care for the handle as it is little more than a round stick. When did decently shaped wooden handles disappear? It seems every wooden handled tool today has gone to just a round stick. I also prefer a maul around only 16 oz. and use a ball peen hammer for snap setting. The choice is up to you. Only you can decide what you like best because we all differ a little. The hunt could prove expensive. I have a brand new rawhide maul that wasn't cheap that I don't like and can see no way to replace the handle. I wonder if adding bondo and shaping it to fit would help----and last.
  13. The heart looks like a too dry cut to me. Like stated by others, proper case is very important. Personally I would chunk the hollow ground blade. Some like them, I don't. The ordinary straight blade works better for me. Different people like different tools but it wouldn't hurt and might help to try both.
  14. Excellent work. At my pace now I might, just might, have completed two of those in that length of time. Something I have learned that when an unwanted stain happens antiquing or dye can salvage the product. Certainly it's different but sill useable. I just did that with a holster I made for myself. Not exactly the color I intended but it works just like it is supposed to. I quit doing anything for sales years ago. People seldom want to pay enough for your skill to make it worthwhile and you either do it for peanuts or quit. I enjoy leatherwork a lot but only do it as a hobby now.
  15. I have no idea. Does CA now stop and inspect vehicles entering the state? If not I would just go about MY business.
  16. Great work and really too nice to mess up by using.
  17. Looks like a replacement, not a repair to me. Nice work, whatever you want to call it.
  18. At fist glance it looks like a real feather.
  19. Great, especially the edge burnish. I don't care for straight across topped holster but that is a personal choice.
  20. I agree with Al. When I stared in leatherwork I bought his books and used his knowledge as a basis to teach myself as there was no other option. Smart man about all things concerning the art of leatherwork.
  21. That is a great piece of work. I find that the dampness of leather has a great deal to do with your cuts and do my cuts while the leather still shows some moisture. I also like a sharp blade but a sharp swivel knife is an entirely different thing than a a regular cutting knife. I strop a lot and sometimes stop and resharpen my blade when stropping isn't quite getting my blade like I like it. I use one of the angle qadgets and a fine diamond hone to sharpen. switch to ceramic for a few strokes, and then to the strop until the blade edge looks like a mirror. Don't forget to keep your finger pressure the same and the knife at a 90 degree angle to the leather..
  22. I like it. I pay no attention to logos on ball caps but do look at hats. This is still kind of cowboy country but caps far outnumber the hats I see worn. The wind we deal with might be a factor in that as I pass on a hat and grab a cap if it's windy and believe most everyone will do the same. It's tiresome and annoying to have to hang on to a hat. I don't believe I have ever seen anyone wearing a hat with a logo though. Differnt creases and brim shapes but no logos.

    THIS IS fine!!!

I will toss in another attaboy. Very nice.
  24. I wouldn't worry about it. You can find a lot of things for sale with the sun sign sun sign on them that the Zuni's had nothing to do with. I am not a lawyer but would believe that it would be considered in the public domain as long as it has been in use with no hullabloo from the tribe. They probably were dissatisfied with the state about something and just wanted to twist the government's tail a little or thought they might prize some money out of them. NM became a state in 1912 and the flag has always had that sign right in the middle of it.
