  1. I use painter's tape. Haven't had a problem since I started doing that. When the tape is pulled off, though, it tends to pick up the nap of the leather. No problem, moisten it and rub it with a slicker glass. Jeff
  2. The Buckle Guy says they have them up to 2 1/4", but I couldn't find any even 2". Ohio Travel Bag had three 2" buckles on their site. Tandy Leather Factory has one 2" double-prong in nickle plate. I just looked at my selection of 1 1/2" buckles, and a 2" buckle is going to be huge. Not a lot of selection out there!
  3. futhark runes as a nipper I did not know that. I did not know futhark, (okay, truth be told, I still don't know futhark), and I thought runes was a noun, and nipper escapes me, completely. So, I am now more informed, but as to what, I'm not sure. I LOVE THIS FORUM! I do like to think that if I watched the total series of Monty Python again, I'd understand this. Except my local Brit translator passed away a while ago. And without him, I'd still not know that "xheour.letyhe[ri]tj" tanslated as "well, that's a fair cop". I'll never get that hour back. (Volume up, listen, volume up more, listen, give up and call the Scot.) RIP, Ted. I LOVE THIS FORUM! Jeff
  4. I'd totally travel with that wallet! Well named! BTW, it has something for everyone, and something for every possible need. Unless a passport wouldn't fit. But, that is just an excuse to make another wallet, so... Jeff
  5. Fantastic! When I grow up, I want to be Don Gonzales. I'm 65, to it MIGHT be too late, but I'm workin' on it! I loved the orange centers, too. Totally ups the the belt, for sure. Jeff Hey! The white will wear to a nice buff color, but a buff color would wear to a brown! You nailed it!
  6. Great piece! Not hard to do better than the sheath some knives come with, but we rise to the occasion, because......we care! I'm a big fan of red thread on black leather. Just did some more of that today. Jeff
  7. Bob, I see we're almost neighbors, I'm in Sunstone Subdivision. Jeff
  8. There is a whole lotta' awesome there! Nice edges, too! Jeff
  9. I noticed the excellent backgrounding too! Not that the flowers aren't first rate too. I doubt that anyone that wasn't into carving leather would be immediately drawn to the background, but we are! Jeff
  10. Second on the LED light bars or strips. Very helpful to have them coming from different directions if at all possible. I use a main light above and portable small ones for close work, that I keep off to the sides. Jeff
  11. I've got the "non-deluxe" one, and use it regularly, I like it. The deluxe has a lever that allows you to vary the depth of cut to get a nice taper to the piece, I would definately like to have that one, but it was too expensive at the time. I'd say go for it! If I didn't already have the other one, I'd pick one up too.
  12. Scooby, you do know there's an adjustment for that, right? Jeff
  13. I do what you are describing, and don't have the issue. I'd suggest putting lines on your table, outlining the strap, and the ends of the punch, to align it. And yes, the big thing is the center has to be in the right place. Other than that, I'd suggest cutting a long piece of strap and practicing for a bit. Jeff
  14. I've got to look into those. Jeff
  15. I LOVE these videos. I liked the way they used the French skiver. I hadn't used one like that...yet. Jeff
  16. That KS Blade tool is interesting. It's almost like my double ended modeling tool, minus the ball on one end. I'll have to try that out. Jeff
  17. Yes, it's likely I didn't load up the roller enough. And I didn't stick with it long enough to get good at it. I found I liked the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser better. I cut them into strips, fold it over and dip it into the paint or dye. Amazing how much they can hold, and then let it out at a fairly constant rate. I'll have to practice with the roller some more. Jeff
  18. This has been my experience. You must apply a moderate amount of pressure to the piece to make it roll, instead of drag. And yes, it tends to leave small ridges from the flutes on the cone. I really like the look of that mesh one! Jeff
  19. Ah, I see. I get the bit about the dawgs, my coonhound mix is a rescue out of New Mexico, so in desperation, I've started telling her, "eso no es tuyo"...seems to work, we'll see.
  20. is there supposed to be something after that dot between chopped jalepeno and cumin? Plan on making this soon.
  21. One more thing about longer thread lengths, something that drives me nuts, is the long loops of thread hanging up on shoes, knees, chair casters, the dog, etc. And pulling every stitch all the way out to a 6' spread of your arms can cause some serious pain in my shoulders and back. That's just me, though, others are younger with less miles! Jeff
