  1. It is when its done for the right reason and with a good attitude. I would think somebody is knocking these bags out at cheap prices to make money for themselves. No honour in stealing some other person's design without paying respect.
  2. Great job. I really like the carved letters. Just one question ... Does that octopus have bat wings, and no suckers on his limbs?
  3. I would use the same leather to match the colour, but I would skive the edges to assist with bending, fitting and stitching the plug.
  4. I hope I have not steered you wrong. I think this is an exceptional piece of art, the likes of which I can only dream of doing. The eye is just one small thing that I noticed.
  5. Excellent job. I like it all.
  6. Beautiful family pic ... maybe your family needs a TV!
  7. Looks great, but I am wondering about the horse's eye, does that need some colour or some tooling to show the eyeball better? The horse looks blind.
  8. That is about $15.50AUD, which is OK for a specialist buckle, I reckon. Maybe wherever I saw them previously, buy them in from Abbey England.
  9. Ohh the horror ... the shame!! Poor Laura AND Sarah. Neither of them has a belt to wear! What sort of leatherworker Brother are you, Nate? Alright. A good one, but where's their belts?
  10. That copy on eBay is really cheap and nasty looking. I wonder if the hide is pressed PU leather? It looks like plastic to me. Maybe its imprinted leather of the cheapest possible type. Either way, it's not 5% of the value or appearance of the @RockyAussie original!
  11. Ha, nope. Things to do, people to see, place's to go ... then there's family, work, sleeping, life and things get put on the back burner. I do what I can, and leave the rest for another day, but I believe its no good beating myself up over it.
  12. When I was a volunteer fire fighter, I was almost constantly looking online for quality gear, which was always bought from USA companies. I have seen that buckle at one of the larger websites, but the only one I can remember was Galls.com ... and they do not appear on their current website. Maybe an email enquiry to them will give you some answers.
  13. That is a great way to solve a possible problem. I think that post arrangement is a standard Dremel item. I have the vertical press, which has an identical hook at the top.
  14. Have you ever seen or used any of Sergey's stamps? If not, your opinion is, IMHO, worthless. I have several custom stamps plus more than a dozen of his stock stamps. I find the quality exceptional and the value is also very good.
  15. I have seen advice suggesting people be careful using a Dremel to burnish leather, because the bearings are not heavy duty and placing it under that sort of sideways stress can chew out the bearing easily. I am guessing skiving and sanding would be the same.
  16. I have some of the double shrink with the glue, but its only in bigger sizes, around 1 inch, as far as I am aware.
  17. It shrank down as far as it would go on the tool shaft, but because the shaft is parallel and not textured (where I applied the heat shrink), there was nothing for it to grip onto, and no glue to hold it in place. Maybe a couple wraps of insulation tape under the heat shrink would fix the problem. Then again, maybe the heat will destroy the adhesive. Its a learning curve.
  18. Trying to duplicate what somebody did can have all sorts of issues. Have you diluted the same? Applied at the same rate? Different leather can absorb differently and maybe alter the colour. At the end of the day, IMHO, all you can do is try and see what happens.
  19. Sometimes the printers ink is not a true indication of dye colour. If somebody sees a pic in a magazine, and they like the colour, you could be 'on a hiding to nothing' trying to duplicate that exact colour, even when you know the brand and name of the colour.
  20. I have noticed some of my heat shrink is sliding up and down the handle of some tools, and sometimes falling off. The only colour I can get with adhesive, AFAIK, is black, but I have not used that option yet.
  21. Look for @silverback on this site. Send him a personal message. I know he had some Junker & Ruh needles, but the actual models might vary.
  22. WOWOW! That is some of the best stitching I have seen. That could be an expensive designer item, if it was in a retail store.
  23. WOW! That looks like a great job. Leather looks fine. Stitching looks great. I would be happy with that.
  24. That is a great job. I like it a lot. My maternal grandparents (both deceased) were McLaren, from Broomehill, Western Australia and Glasgow, Scotland before that.
