Axe and Sheath for presentation
Retswerb replied to Woodshed's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Excellent! Would love to see the axe head as well. I made an axe sheath for a coworker who helped me drop a tree in my front yard but it was nowhere near this nice. He doesn’t know what he’s missing! -
@mike02130, English isn’t @paloma’s first language. Read with some grace for that and you’ll see that what came across as brusque I don’t think was intended that way. He’s saying that he doesn’t need Tokonole because he’s happy with the method he already chimed in on, burnishing with gum trag and a glass slicker.

Welcome aboard! Hope you’re holding up to the smoke here ok, it’s been bad the last couple of days! i don’t have any sewing machine knowledge myself but plenty of others here are tremendous resources. Looking forward to seeing your work!

@LionCrownLeather, I think it’s just an optical illusion. Here are your two edges next to each other, the angles look consistent. Ignore the spacing difference, I just zoomed differently on the two sides.

Tooled Belt
Retswerb replied to Rolandranch's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
As always, man - excellent work. Thanks for sharing. -
These are beautiful! I like your style a lot.

I stopped into my local store yesterday because I needed some dye right away. Lots of sale signs throughout the store, but none on the dyes or the other couple of things I was interested in. Leather prices didn’t seem to be reduced all that much. The store had several other customers come and go during the few minutes I spent there though, which is more than I can say for some of my pre-Covid visits.

Proof that you’ve got awl sharpening figured out!

@johnv474, thanks for speaking truth even though it will be ignored by many. @chuck123wapati unfortunately even though you claim no one said it wasn’t real, @Paultalks just said it was a hoax. That sounds to me like him saying exactly what you’re saying isn’t being said. And @tsunkasapa, if your response to reading someone posting about losing three friends is to boast about yawning, I don’t have appropriate words for you. Show a little human decency at least. My wife had Covid back toward the beginning of this. Thank God she survived. By most measures she had a relatively mild case, no hospitalization needed. Great! Except... five months later, she’s still only back to around 60% strength/energy levels. Just because you survive this thing doesn’t mean it’s not going to impact you and your family for a long long time. Once again we’ve left the subject of Tandy far behind.

Couple of similar-ish ones with pics here: https://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/antique-machinery-and-history/c-campbell-nibbler-208882/

Nope, not a sewing machine. Just like it says on the side, it’s a nibbler - a sheet metal tool. Like you say, looks more like a boat anchor now, and clearly missing plenty.

Sheath for hand forged knife

My wrist hurts just thinking of using it, if I’m picturing it right. Without the weight of the mallet your arm and wrist would have to do all the work. Am I missing something?
-
All depends what you’re looking for, I’d say. If you just want to block out the squares for dye, a ruler and awl will give you the bare minimum you need. A step up would be to use a groover or swivel knife, either would give you much more obvious markings in the leather itself. Or if you wanted to spend more time, you could prick them and run lines of stitching as your divisions. Its a cool project, one I’ll tackle myself at some point. Whatever you decide to do, let’s see pics when you figure it out!

Sheath for hand forged knife
Retswerb replied to Maint1517's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Looks good, @Maint1517! @chuck123wapati is right though, custom around here sez no posting knives in sheaths without also posting a pic of the knife itself! -
Couple of today's projects
Retswerb replied to DustinSmith's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Really nice, @DustinSmith! I was thinking that I’d like to see that knife out of the sheath and then I scrolled down and you had read my mind. -
You’re doing well so far. As you say, technical discussions are challenging in a second language and go beyond simple conversation! Thanks for the effort you’re putting in to engage here. As for the awls, I’m interested in the Jerome David products although they are probably outside of my price range. I’ll send you a PM (private message).

This will be excellent as always, @Danne! Looking forward to seeing it come together. Hoping you show the use of the Freudenberg Vildona which I assume is interfacing, I’ve not used that on any of my own projects.

I finally forced myself this summer to establish a healthy running habit. 40 years old and have spent 20 of them claiming to enjoy running but rarely doing it. Anyway, I’m enjoying the slightly cooler weather of the last couple of weeks while dreading the return of the rain. Nothing close to 34 yet here in Washington though!

Really nice work, @Memphis514. Thanks for sharing.

I’m no help on sourcing one, sorry. Today I learned what a glover’s donkey is lol. Curious though: are you saying the teeth are used as needle guides for stitch placement?
-
Welcome aboard @FrenchMich! The pieces you’ve posted here are beautiful, I’ll look forward to seeing more.

Must be a good friend! That’s a beautiful bag. What did you use for the structure inside the hooks?
