good luck my friend on your build lol getting them off and cleaned up is the hard part, my dad always made me do the gasket removal and clean up lol. I managed to make it back with my old truck in one piece this year. ten days in the mud, snow and muck. We have plenty of meat now for the year having taken two cow elk and one calf. It was cold wet and beautiful out there and yes those first two days without a cloud in the sky or snow were celebrated with a hot fire under the milky way. a couple of pics for your enjoyment, that mud hole is typical of many out there this time of year and its on the main road lol. -
still good practice as you said and it is good work imo. You might try smoothing your untooled cuts with a small stylus to make them more fluid and pronounced.

those are great knives and a wonderful story, I'm very sorry of your injury but i can see it hasn't kept you down and out. i have made a few knives from purchased blades as well nothing at all wrong with that. i finished one about a month ago for a guy who brought me an old Indian river blade. When i started as a kid i used only hand tools mainly because they were all i had but you know i think back and making them that way was more relaxing and enjoyable sometimes even though i had to use already tempered steel and not over heat it in the process of shaping a forming the blades.

thank you and I am glad it inspires. I grew up with stacked leather knives also, the Western brand being my favorite knife of all. I carried one in the woods for most of my life. The feel of a good leather handle is hard to beat. and you can use them on other tools as well, here is a combination lifter and stylus i made a while back now i have a set of them, made from stainless all thread.

now that's a compliment! thank you it got its first field test this last ten days spent in the mountains of Wyoming hunting elk.
-
thank you it did take some planning, the handle makes the knife, it has to fit the hand to do any good. thank you.

i made a hide but you cant have it yet I'm still usin it lol.

yup that's how its done! amazing isn't it.

very cool story! the first governor of Wyoming wore shoes made from the skin of Big nose George to his inauguration, he was an outlaw that killed two deputies, he was lynched in my home town after trying to escape.https://www.wyohistory.org/encyclopedia/big-nose-george-grisly-frontier-tale those are nice!

No one "makes" leather.

That may be because they aren't really needed, you have some amazing tools but IMO they are kind of over thunk a bit. My cheapo wooden one has adjustable depth that is actually more variable than inserts would be without having to change or store parts that can be lost.

you are just having to much fun with this leather stuff lol. That is cool!!!
-
that is really cool and fascinating wish i knew more about how she did that.
-
you nailed that one!!
-
that is a beautiful finish job on those. i like that strap too.

maybe it just needs to be in the right category, tools or advertising or something besides show off. I m sure he is proud of his tools but shouldn't this area be about leather goods people have made?

my dad was in Ww2 also, grew up during the depression, man they had a rough go of it back then but you know my folks were always happy i guess when you live through tough times like that history everything else is cake. I have my great grandmothers cook book it is a reused fabric sample book that she glued recipes from newspapers and books into and also quilt patterns and doily patterns lol. Some of the oldest dates are 1895. i find them fascinating because of the simple ingredients that folks had back then to work with and the fact that cook books weren't something you bought but made. i made baked eggs from it the other day lol but i had a hard time figuring out what temperature a "quick oven" was, wood stove terms lol. My mom was always saving recipes too, i have hers still also. Got the truck about half ready so far, today i have to grease it up, check the winch, and maybe change a u joint. its only ten days but its a hard ten, plenty of mud and possibly snow instore for the truck that starts by pulling my old camper 60 miles up into the mountains. -
mine is still not here anytime lol.

roses are my nightmare lol, you did a great job on them.
