  1. Is that at maximum thickness of leather though or minimum thickness as I thought the jump arm moved the leather a shorter distance with thicker leather
  2. I doubt that Brexit will effect you for at least 2 years (until after the transition period and trade talks end) and probably longer or never,
  3. That looks first class and the amount of tooling is just the right amount, some seem to over tool them which can distract from the nice clean lines
  4. Chris You should not just be looking at Milwaukee but the whole of the states and regarding average officers, that should not be your main market a far simpler item would be in their price range, the better market must be the hundreds of Police Chiefs, Sheriffs and others who have the money to buy your quality work. Top people in any service, 25 -50 year presentations, presidents of large companies. they are the ones with money to spend
  5. If people want superb items like that, they will pay the going price just like they do for LV or other items, your not selling to the average guy down the road, but to people who understand quality and quality costs Time to get down to basic business sense and work out how much your hour of work should be paid for a skilled tradesman then the cost of materials, include design time and all other costs, then add some real profit With your skills you are only looking for well off people and they understand quality items are not cheap and that notebook will last a lifetime Look at hermes goods and try to figure out what the actual costs are to make them, probably a tiny percentage of the selling price Get free publicity by writing a story about yourself with images of your work and send it to all the top quality magazines in the states and hopefully one may do a article of you, imagine a free quarter page item on say Playboy about you and your work Good luck
  6. Welcome to the forum, seems quite a few of you down under who like leather.
  7. Try this site for a diagram of parts https://www.supsew.com/search-results/Singer/
  8. I would guess they are made from asian Elephants who have died of old age, my reasoning is the far east has tanners and lots of working Elephants whilst in Africa most are slaughtered for their tusks and left to rot where they die
  9. All leather suppliers will send out samples, some for free others a small postage fee
  10. Many old leather knifes from probably prior to 1950 ish seem to be held in great esteem, what steel would have been available in those days for knife blades
  11. In the UK its called "Shabby Sheek" they repurpose old things mainly furniture, paint it then distress it to look old again, new look and purpose for old things. great lateral thinking
  12. Have you seen the low prices for the small DLP printers these day with fantastic detail, I also saw some leather stamps from a SLA printer with incredible detail I need advice never used anything but a 0.4 nozzle to date, but looking for more detail so considering using a 0.2. In theory it should offer improved detail but much longer print time, but has anyone had any experience of using 0.2 and did you find a large improvement or just a minor one. I know its easy to change but with playing with setup it can take some time, so if anyone has had great results and success I am all ears
  13. Does it take much voltage to powder coat prior to the oven?
  14. I also used to get the free chrome leather off cuts from a Car seat maker in the uk, often pieces would be about 3-4 Sq Feet or larger, so if you have any car seat or other upholstery companies near you they could be worth a try, probably more things you can make with chrome leather than veg tan
  15. J Wood in england do a economical veg tan that might fit, last time i had a price list about £2.60 ft probably get cheaper for large orders Email: product.info@jwoodleathers.co.uk
  16. Remember that skill takes a long time to master, the makers of top quality gloves are experts in choosing the right leather for the job and have had years and years of growing their skills by starting at the bottom of a makers and progressing upwards learning each part of the process before moving up Remember names do not always mean quality even though its implied from history of the firm, and in the UK many glovers companies have gone out of business I assume by competition from the third world
  17. Once found a story about Benzona for repairs of cracks in cast iron, think it was a epoxy blanket or similar, might be worth investigating
  18. While it is expensive to start, to do it seriously you need to invest in all the labour saving devices around, like clicker press, skiver, and so on
  19. The part that normally breaks off is most often still held by the thread through the needle, also the stories i think are from the machinist doing their sewing at 3-5000spm rather than the slow speeds most leather workers use
  20. You are one very lucky person to own one, I have no use for one , but would love to own one as its so unorthodox
