  1. I still like my DSLR camera, but you are right, the cameras on these new phones are really nice. There are all types of tripods available specifically for phones. You can spend hours searching through them to find just the right one. Some are traditional 3 legged adjustable ones that are tall, others are stubby and can sit on your desktop. Can't wait to see your video.

    Years go by Fast

    Very nice indeed! Nicely done.
  3. Not sure. worth trying. grab a piece of scrap and go at it. Let us know what you find out?
  4. Welcome to the forum. You could try some matte finish eco flow clear finish. https://www.amazon.com/Tandy-Leather-Eco-Flo-Satin-2611-01/dp/B007O2NWES
  5. I will sometimes use dye to slick edges. I put a coat of dye on and while still wet, rub it with the wooden burnisher. I gets pretty good results.
  6. I would go with Option 3, but instead of the $1800 unit from weaver, I would use the $55 Lace cutter from Tandy. It works well and uses standard razor blades for cutting, so cheap and easy to replace. https://tandyleather.com/collections/tools/products/table-top-lace-cutter
  7. Very nice indeed. Congrats to the new owner. They will cherish that for sure.
  8. Wow. Exquisite craftmanship. Really like the way you did the background as well as use of the petal lifters. Been looking at those Judges too. Can't find a good deal on them. Still too pricey for me.
  9. That is beautiful. As far as amount of leather in front of the first hole, Chuck at Weaver leather has some really good tutorials on belts to help guide you to the proper length. Nicely done. Love the color.
  10. Welcome to the forum. I am about 2 hours south of you in Carthage. There are many answers to your questions on the forum. If you can't find the answer you are looking for, ask away. If it has been answered, someone will be kind enough to share the link to it. Thanks for sharing some of your work. One thing I noticed was some of the item's edges are not burnished. Do you have an edge slicker?
  11. I have used a couple of places for stamps. This one is fairly inexpensive and stateside. Made from an epoxy type material. Great folks to deal with. Welcome to the Bunkhouse Leather This company is outside of the country, but make good brass stamps with handle. Little pricier, but good quality. https://lwleathers.com/collections/custom-leather-stamp-leather-stamping-tools/products/leatherstamp You may even find a member on here who can engrave one for you with a laser printer. My shop is packed up at the moment or I could. Good luck. When I had mine made, I had 3 different sizes made so I could ensure the mark would fit on all projects.
  12. Very nice. Like the simplicity of the tooling. just right.
  13. Very nice! The only "exotics" I have worked with so far is alligator and ostrich.
  14. That is beautiful. Great craftsmanship all the way.
  15. Until the "scrap" goes into the trash, it is still something waiting to be made. Beautiful work @chuck123wapati!! I am gonna stick to leather for now. Have not dipped my toe into the forging of knives yet. Maybe I can talk you into sending some of that metal scrap (after you have done your magic on it) down this way. LOL.
  16. Welcome to the forum! What beauties you have made, both knives and sheaths. I like the mottling on those sheaths. Gorgeous! @Wizcrafts can shed some light on your questions.
  17. That's a great idea. Make sure to stamp the year on them so when the young ones have their own families and are hanging them up, their kiddos can hear the story about "way back when". Nice work!!
  18. Sorry, I know I don't have that one. A quick search at SLC and Ebay didn't show any either.
  19. The stamps you describe seem rather small for a typical width belt. I made one for my Dad and carved his name so the letters were larger. What width belt are you making?
  20. Great way to use up those small pieces. Any type of earrings are good too. I enjoy creating the leather portion, just not all the tedious hooks and stuff.
  21. Chisels make easy work to make holes in leather. A single prong does just that ...1 hole at a time. If you can afford to add a 2 and a 4 prong, it will help you keep your line a little straighter and your hole spacing much more consistent. I use all three. 4 prong for long straight sections, 2 prong for bends and round edges, and the 1 punch when I have a gap between 2 holes that is just too wide to leave without a hole. Someone just recently shared this link. It may be helpful.
  22. Great explanation, @zuludog. I have tried several sets of diamond chisels and found the ones from Weaver Leather to be the best (considering I am not buying high end chisels).
  23. I am sure he will appreciate it. My dad is a retired old country doc and received many things from his patients over the years. He relishes these items, both large and small. Well done.
  24. I like that idea but thought when I build my table, I may just store my leather flat. Something to consider is putting a curtain or something to block the sun from getting to it. If I lay mine flat on the bottom shelf, I may cover mine with a layer of cardboard to protect it. Do you already have a chunk of marble for stamping? If not, get with a counter top contractor and ask for a sink cutout. They normally have stacks of them.
  25. Very nice and for a good cause. Great detail on your carving. Especially love the paint you added.
