Hi again guys an gals from aussie .

Would it be classed as sacralidge to use a modelling spoon ball the clean up around the edges of my sheridan carving . I just use it to smooth out a few rough spots .. Does that seem as bit like cheating

Not sure but the guy that taught me the basics of carving told me that an expert isn't a guy who doesn't make mistakes but is the guy who knows how to fix them. I say smooth away :)

If it makes your tooling look better, do it. There is no such thing as cheating. There is good and bad work, do the good work.

Ron......you use anything that you believe will help you feel better about your work. Post some before and after pictures.

I used a lot of modelling spoon to make my carvings look better, but with a bit more experience and better tools this becomes less frequent=)I hope one day I'd be able to tool without the spoon at all, but at the moment its my lifesaver.
